Why Work At AstroCamp?

There are few times in life when you have the opportunity to do such impactful work, live in the beautiful mountains, AND belong to an inclusive community knit together by hard work and passionate learning. That is camp!  That is AstroCamp!  Set in the gorgeous San Jacinto mountains, just a short drive from Palm Springs, AstroCamp is a mountain science adventure program serving campers ages 8-17 in one and two-week programs.  From telescope fields to ziplines, AstroCamp is full of adventure and will be the “best and hardest” job you will ever love.

It is important to know that working at summer camp is not for everyone.  If you are looking for a job that is routine and doesn’t require a lot of personal responsibility, then maybe camp is not right for you.  If you are looking for a summer that allows for a lot of work/life balance and never tests your limits, then a job at summer camp is definitely not for you.  However, if you are looking for a summer unlike any you’ve ever experienced, one that will that you to grow in ways you didn’t even realize you needed, then AstroCamp is the place to be. From staff to campers, our camp culture is built on 30+ years of life-changing experiences.

We know there are many choices for seasonal work, however, dedicating your summer to AstroCamp will enrich your life in a variety of ways:
– Opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children!
– Build your resume with impactful skills for any future job (creativity, problem-solving,
communication, decision-  making).
– Connect with the outdoors!
– Develop life-long friendships and a close-knit community with fellow staff from all over the
country and world.
– Be active!
– Be a part of an inclusive and diverse community that embraces the individual.
– Be silly.  Be weird. Be yourself!
– HAVE FUN!

If this sounds good to you, we want to meet you.  Please see below for steps to applying!

The first step in applying to AstroCamp is to read your New Counselor Info Letter.  We want to set our counselors up for success and that means you need to have a full picture of what it means to be a counselor from beginning to end.  This document covers a lot of information – please read carefully!  All applicants must read this entire letter before applying.

Counselor applicants are asked to submit a recorded one-way interview through a service called Spark Hire.  Use the link below to submit your intro interview recording. Spark Hire has a desktop version or you can download and use their app on your mobile phone.  It is very easy and user-friendly!

The interview consists of just a few questions, and shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes.  You’ll have a certain time limit for each question, but you’ll be able to record the interview on your own time.  You will also have unlimited number of takes for your recording so there is not any pressure on getting it perfect on the first time.  The questions will just be our initial get-to-know-you questions along with questions about why you think you would be a good fit for AstroCamp. Our expectation is that you treat this as you would a real interview; look presentable and give some thought to your answers.

We will contact you by email within one week of your live interview. This email will contain information about when you can expect to hear a final hiring decision from us and will invite you to stay in contact with us throughout this process.
