“AstroCamp has a really unique blend of science, fun and unique activities like Dungeons and Dragons, and a beautiful setting,” says Scott Alton, Program Director. “As a lifelong nerd with a nose for outdoor adventures, it’s the place that I would have loved as a kid. The combination creates an amazing opportunity for campers to meet other kids who share their passions and allow them to truly be themselves.”
Scott stumbled into the camp world by accident, acquiring a school year position with AstroCamp as an instructor in 2010. By 2012 he couldn’t be pulled away and tried to find ways to get involved in every aspect of the program. In 2015, he joined the administrative team as Summer Program Director. His favorite parts of camp are the role playing games, telescope nights, and campfires where kids talk about what effect camp has had on them. He can almost always be found during free time in the meadow throwing a Frisbee with anyone who walks by.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Michigan State University. Throughout his time with Guided Discoveries, he has worked a number of unique projects including starting up our Social Media presence, designing and building the classrooms at AstroCamp Virginia, and taking our program international running a camp in China on the Gold Coast.
